Inspired by: Solange
When I discovered Solange a few years ago, something in me sparked. A little dramatic, maybe, but I know I'm not alone in thinking she is one super cool lady. I think her first music video I saw was for 'Losing You' (definitely my favourite Solange song to date). What I saw was someone who did her own thing and totally owned it. Her incredible style and energy make for something truly special - I just wanted to bottle it all up and keep it for myself so I could be as cool as her. While her style has changed extensively over the years - from the upbeat retro 'I Decided' to the now more subdued tracks on 'A Seat at the Table' - it's clear that she's always stayed true to herself and put her heart and soul into her art.
If her artistry isn't enough (enough for what, I'm not sure, but it definitely is), she's also a proud mother, sister, and wife. I think the whole world was in collective awe at her stunning wedding photos: understated, effortless elegance. As for me, watching and listening to Solange brings out something in me that few other artists do. With no exaggeration here, she inspires me to be creative and gets me really excited about the things I'm passionate about, and her visuals are definitely up there on my mood board for design and fashion inspo. And while most of my friends will know that I'm not usually one to dance (in public? Who knows?), close friends have seen me eagerly groove to one particular dance move (what I like to call my 'signature dance'), also inspired by Solange in her 'Losing You' music video.
So I think it's pretty clear that I think Solange is super cool and has influenced a lot of how I roll today; to name her a girl crush would be a massive understatement.
